We’ve found four best bets from today’s midweek racing at Warwick Farm and Bendigo to get stuck into and build the Spring Carnival betting bank!
Plus – there’s a few promising ones stepping out from a big stable that need to be closely monitored.
READY TO FIRE
The roughie of the day looks to be PARIS SIZZLER (R3#6, $23/$4.80), a five-year-old lining up for just his seventh career start and first at his home track. He won two of his first four starts before being put away last year, reappearing in September for two runs which have more merit than their paper form would suggest. He stays at 1400m and the blinkers go on third up – he looks to be nice value.
BEST OF THE DAY
The scratching of Girl Tuesday in the penultimate race at Warwick Farm leaves AQUA D’IVINA (R7#2, $2.30) standing as the clear top selection. She was excellent first up when a close second to Spring Charlie and indicated the step to 1600m isn’t beyond her here. She’s already ticked the wet track box and lining up in similar grade, she appears beautifully placed here.
BLUE JACKETS TO WATCH
It would be remiss of me not to point out three promising Cummings-trained runners who will step out today as favourites. Strongly recommend all are closely monitored in betting before investing. ROHERYN (R1#7, $2.00) debuts after two eye-catching trials – he’s a colt with a serious turn of foot. In the second, COLOMBINA (R2#1, $2.60) resumes in search of her first victory but with strong form lines behind stakes-grade horses. Finally in the last, ROOSEVELT (R8#13, $2.60) takes on the older horses second up after running Blue Diamond winner Written By to two lengths on resuming. He’ll appreciate the return to ‘the Sydney way’.
RING THE BELL
The Bendigo racetrack is commonly referred to as the ‘nursery of champions’ in Victoria – another place that fits the bill is the Darren Weir stables. He has a number of promising horses entered and ready to win today but the best chance of the lot appears to be RINGERDINGDING (R6#10, $2.30). He ran second in his first start for the new stable in a good three-year-old race at Moonee Valley and a plain BM64 race here looks the perfect stepping stone.
GO HOME A WINNER
The last on the card sees SPIRIT OF AQUADA (R8#8 $7.50/$2.35) line up in search of his first win since June. He’s had three runs since a freshen, storming home from last at Caulfield when favourite to miss by a lip in Saturday grade and more recently closing hard again at Mornington. The speed map here suggests plenty of pace on up front, which should bring his superior closing speed into play. The extra 100m and step back in grade won’t hurt either. Nice each-way value to end the day.
