TWO mouth-watering betting cards have been set down to be run at Caulfield and Royal Randwick this Saturday, with the dual Guineas down south and The Everest north of the border the highlights.
We’ve got two betting suggestions in the Guineas events at Caulfield as part of this week’s best bets column, while we’ve also shared our thoughts on every runner in The Everest here.
You can get set on every race at both meetings via GOAT Top or fixed odds at TopBetta.
BEST: RACE 6
Flight Stakes winner ALIZEE heads to Melbourne in search of a Group 1 double and she looks the clear top pick in the Thousand Guineas. Ridden quietly at her last two starts she’s shown a devastating turn of foot and she also has the strongest performance at a mile of any of these. The small field means she won’t be too far off them and looks hard to hold out.
Betting tip: ALIZEE win @ GOAT Top +5%
NEXT BEST: RACE 8
ROYAL SYMPHONY had his picket fence broken in the Guineas prelude but he settled well back and was unable to reel in the trifecta which all sat 1-2-3 in the run. He also appeared to be crying out for the mile and he gets that here, plus a potentially stronger tempo to set the race up for him here. At the price he’s the bet in the Caulfield Guineas.
Betting tip: ROYAL SYMPHONY @ $4.00 fixed
EACH WAY: RACE 9
The Group 1 Toorak Handicap looks a particularly strong event and the pattern of the two aforementioned mile races above should give us a guide to any tricks in the track for this one. Should the above horses have no issue making ground, our confidence will be further increased in TOSEN STARDOM who is desperate for the mile now (and perhaps beyond). The wide draw means he’ll need luck in the first 200m but his form through Everest favourite Vega Magic and a strong last-start G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes run reads well.
Betting tip: TOSEN STARDOM each-way @ $12.00/$3.70 fixed
BEST: RACE 7
The Everest ‘Consolation’ shapes as one of the best Listed level races seen in some time and the favourite IN HER TIME could consider herself mighty unlucky to miss a start in the big dance. Nonetheless the plan was to run over 1200m on this day and now she gets the chance to take on the second stringers – on her last start performance (beating Everest horses), not to mention her last 12 months of form, she looks too good.
Betting tip: IN HER TIME win @ $2.60 fixed
NEXT BEST: RACE 4
A whopping $200K goes on the line for the country only horses this week and one which finished less than four lengths from those competing for a slice of $10 million on Saturday last start goes on top. PUMPKIN PIE’s run in the Premiere was superb and she’s already twice a winner stepping up to 1400m. Her fitness and likely position in the run looks likely to give her the edge over main rival Suncraze, which steps out off a five week break.
Betting tip: PUMPKIN PIE @ $4.40 fixed
EACH-WAY: RACE 3
On a deep betting card at Randwick, the best each-way value lies in Race 3 with a new addition to the Chris Waller stable, FAITH IN HAND. First up for Waller she was very strong through the line over 1000m and despite suitable stakes events presenting in Melbourne, she’s switched back to Sydney and sent out over 1400m. Have to respect the stable’s decision and she looks very promising.
