Tournament of the week time! We head to Morphetville for their TWO Group 1 races. Read on . . .

This weeks tournament of the week takes place at Morphettville, Adelaide. Two big Group 1 races on the card – The Robert Sangster Stakes for the sprinters and the Australasian Oaks for the staying fillies. As usual, $110 buy-in and 2k guaranteed. #TOTW

It is overall a quality day of racing by SA standards but there is no doubting the two features on the card.

Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes

An underrated sprint race on the Australian racing calendar. Black Caviar won the race in 2012 (see below) when Pete Moody took the star mare on an All-Star tour. This years field is very competitive and it is shaping as a really good betting race! Plenty of horses have been quietly set for this race in the hopes of snatching a Group 1 victory.

The quality in the field comes from Gregers, Miracles Of Life, Platelet, Vain Queen, Avoid Lightning and Politeness. Whilst the race doesn’t have an out an out superstar there is a ton of top end talent.

If this was at the Flemington 1200m start she would be $3. I still think she is a good bet at around the $5 mark. Drawn gate 13 isn’t a big issue and if anything I think it means Nick Hall won’t be able to get too cute with the ride. Roughie: #2 MAGNIFISIO.

“She looks at the 30,000 strong crowd and says geez i’m good, no I’m not good. I’m the best you have ever seen in the world”

Group 1 Australasian Oaks

A feature staying race for the fillies. This race has been a Group 1 since 1983. A quality field this year featuring the likes of; Fenway, Fontein Ruby and Wine Tales. Seaspray looks ready for 2000m, Wine Tales went well behind a smart one in Hi World and Lady Sharapova looks perfectly positioned to deliver a peak run for Team Hawkes.

Tip: #1 FENWAY.
Can’t go past this filly who has gone to a new level this prep. She maps perfectly and with Blake Shinn on board she is the horse to beat. $4 more than reasonable and I’ll be betting up. Roughie: #10 LADY SHARAPOVA.

Platelet (featured above) lines up in the Sangster and is attempting to become the first horse since the races inception to become a dual winner.

Other notable Sangster Stakes winners: Driefontein (2014) Black Caviar (2012), Alinghi (2005).

Lee Freedman won the race in 2005, 05 and 07!

Mick Price has also won the race 3 times: 1998, 2004 and 2009.

That’s right, no more swoopers in the big tournaments. Entries will close after the start of Race 5. You can bet in whatever races you like but you MUST be entered in the tournament before the start of Race 5.

Good luck and good punting!

**If the $110 is a bit rich for your veins we will have a host of other options on the site for Saturdays racing including the Toowoomba Cup meeting in Queensland and the Hawkesbury Guineas meeting in the burbs of Sydney.
