It’s time for some Midweek Madness, with four best bets from the meetings at Warwick Farm and Ballarat on Wednesday.
Palmateer (R2#3, $2.80) is deep into her preparation and has held her form well, most recently chasing a smart one home gamely to place at Rosehill last week. She’s been racing well on the back up, gets a drop in grade here at Warwick Farm and has a fitness edge on her rivals. Should get our day off to a positive start!
There looks to be some value on offer in Race 6 at Warwick Farm with the talented but unreliable Almanzora coming up a short-ish priced favourite. That leaves the door open for a horse like Sasso Corbaro (R6#3, $8.00/$2.35), who has competed in much harder races than this. With plenty of pace on, he’ll get the last shot under Corey Brown and has the ability to sprint well fresh. A nice each-way bet at the price.
Lightly-raced mare Guipure (R7#11, $3.50) is ready to put her best foot forward at Ballarat today and is our only bet at the Victorian meeting. Her first up form when closing on Lady Cromac (who has twice run well in Saturday grade since) looks good and last start she was held up when again closing well. She looks the most progressive horse in this race and shouldn’t have traffic issues from a wider gate. With a cart into the race she should be too strong to the line.
We’re saving the best until last, with our most confident bet of the day coming in the final event at Warwick Farm. Bravissimo (R7#2, $3.40) is a handy five year old gelding who put in a strong showing first up when run down by Wagner and Metamorphic. The former ran credibly in Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas Prelude, the latter was a scratched favourite from this race. He’ll race on speed from the wide gate and will be very tough to run down.
