Group 1 Orr Stakes day racing tips: Caulfield & Warwick Farm, 10th February

THE first Group 1 of the season brings together an exciting crop of 14 horses for the Orr Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday.

We’re siding with a grand old campaigner in that one – plus have another four selections from Caulfield and Warwick Farm to sink your teeth into! You can get set on either fixed odds or GOAT SP – Australia’s best tote product – at TopBetta.

Caulfield R4#3 WYNDSPELLE @ $3.50

We’re taking on the favourite Gailo Chop in this one, which looks the likely leader first up over 1600m. The second favourite Wyndspelle arrives second up after a good third here a fortnight ago and the extra fitness will be key. Maps to settle in the ‘one-one’ and prove difficult to hold out.

Caulfield R8#1 HARTNELL @ $6.00

Looks to be some value around the old boy Hartnell carrying the top weight in the G1 Orr Stakes. He won the Lawrence over this track and trip first up in the Spring and looks to have recovered from the Melbourne Cup judging by his recent trial. Should he follow the leaders across from the wide gate, he’ll be in a perfect position to strike turning for home.

Warwick Farm R1#8 OXFORD TYCOON

Siding with a debutant in the opener at the Farm with a smart-looking colt prepared by Kim Waugh. Two recent trials have been good – smashed an ordinary bunch at Gosford, then beat home the early favourite in this race at the next.. Looks to haze a dazzling turn of foot and with the right breaks from the low draw looks hard to hold out.

Warwick Farm R5#12 SUNREEL @ $16/$4.60 each-way

Going for some value in the two-year-old race restricted to Inglis Sales graduates with this one for Kris Lees. At both career starts she’s been slight green, held up when building momentum and savaging the line. She is huge odds third up with Glyn Schofield riding.

Warwick Farm R8#4 SHOW A STAR @ $2.60

The best of the day comes up in the penultimate at the Farm, with Show A Star stepping out on his home track for Bjorn Baker. Tim Clark is an aggressive jockey booking and he should control the race from the front. He was a strong 1500m winner second up and with added fitness should be hard to catch here.
