THE Group 1 action continues this Saturday with the Lightning Stakes at Flemington, while a cracking (albeit Winx-less) field lines up in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes at Randwick.
With so many high quality races, we’ve picked out our five best bets from Doomben, Flemington and Randwick – including a selection in both of the features mentioned above. You can get set on either fixed odds or GOAT SP – Australia’s best tote product – at TopBetta.
Doomben R9#3 FORTENSKY @ $3.70
After two wins and a close second from three 1200m runs in Sydney this prep, Chris Waller sends Fortensky north for a 1350m Saturday assignment. Beautifully placed and with natural speed to race in the first four, he looks a top chance.
Flemington R1#2 SANGLIER @ $8.50/$2.60 each-way
The James Cumminsg/ Godolphin stable is starting to fire and there’s plenty to like about this colt. He had no luck on debut before running third to Long Leaf and Oohood before a three-month spell – that’s good form. All eyes on where Craig Williams can settle him in the run.
Flemington R8#1 REDZEL @ $1.75
Looks a bit of a put in, take out job in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes with the favourite Redzel. He’s unbeaten in his last six (including two Group 1s and The Everest), hasn’t missed the quinella in his last nine and is unbeaten on the track. Can either lead or use Ball Of Muscle and Super Too as pacemakers and go whooskha.
Randwick R6#9 ADDICTIVE NATURE @ $3.70
There’s no Winx in the Apollo Stakes after a late change to her Autumn plans, but we’re siding with the new favourite in this one anyway. Addictive Nature was good when held up in the Expressway Stakes and that looks the strongest form line. Should get the perfect set up here off the fence and just behind the speed, so this sets up nicely for him.
Randwick R9#13 STAR OF MONSOON @ $7.50/$2.50 each-way
It is hard to ignore the case for Star Of Monsoon at each-way odds here. Gelding has turned this perennial bridesmaid into a genuine racehorse and with better luck he would be three-from-three this prep. He’ll race midfield or just better from the middle draw and with Glyn on board should get a good crack at them in the straight.
