The Everest: Betting preview & tips

THE Everest is the richest race to ever be held in Australia and brings together a crack field of twelve sprinters over the famed Randwick 1200m.

Here’s how our traders see each runner in the field and their picks in the event.

THE EVEREST – Royal Randwick, 1200m

Chautauqua ($5.50): Both runs this time in have him tuned up to the minute for Grand Final day. Loves Randwick and will appreciate any sting out of the ground.

Vega Magic ($4.60): Favourite and set for this race with a six week break off winning the Memsie, but the map is a slight concern. Looks a complete racehorse.

Redzel ($7.50): Likely to take a trail behind Houtzen and has the capacity to accelerate sharply off a moderate tempo. Perhaps 1200m a minor concern?

Redkirk Warrior ($9.00): Twice a Melbourne winner at 1200m but both have come down the straight off slow tempos. Would have preferred to see him do it around a bend.

Clearly Innocent ($15.00): Was excellent first up when racing in limited room in the Premiere. Loves Randwick and if he finds room to wind up on the outside he looks a genuine chance.

Deploy ($11.00): Has broken two track records of late and gets his first crack at Group 1 level on the biggest stage. Could show up at each-way odds.

Fell Swoop ($51.00): Struggling to win of late and looks well held in this.

Brave Smash ($31.00): Blinkers go on the former Japanese galloper and few could doubt Darren Weir’s capacity to have his horses ready on Grand Final day.

English ($11.00): Produced a sharp sprint in the Premiere and clearly made up the most ground of any back marker. Will go back from the wide gate though and has plenty to do.

She Will Reign ($5.00): Produced a stunning first up win in the Moir and certainly is the pick of the three-year-olds. Whether the 1000m form stands up here against the older horses over 1200m remains to be seen.

Houtzen ($21.00): Speedy filly who will run them along from barrier one with the light weight. May try and sneak away and pinch it?

Tulip ($51.00): Ran third in the Slipper and was a good fourth to Alizee last time out. Back in trip and perhaps has too much to do here.

THE VERDICT

1. Chautauqua

2. Clearly Innocent

3. Vega Magic

4. Redzel
